Maggie Moo Offers Special Treats For All

By Mary Ann O'Toole Holley

When it comes to ice cream, it’s naturally all about flavor. But at Maggie Moo’s O’Fallon’s newest ice cream parlor, flavor has married creativity with their selection of ice creams and treats that make you smile with just one look.

Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream and Treatery at 4579 Hwy. K in O’Fallon is undoubtedly the best ice cream “experience” in the land. Maggie Moo's holds Blue Ribbon awards from the National Ice Cream Retailer's Association for five flavors: vanilla, vanilla bean, chocolate, dark chocolate and strawberry.

But that’s just a small sampling of what Maggie Moo has to offer.

Their gleaming stainless steel counter is filled with ice cream in all colors of the rainbow. More than 40 flavors fill large vats and on the sidelines you’ll find fabulous delicacies like extravagantly decorated ice cream cakes and even ice cream cupcakes that closely resemble the Hostess brand, all the way down to the squiggly white “icing” on top.

General Manager Jason Craig, who manages the O’Fallon and Fenton Maggie Moo locations, says business in O’Fallon has been booming since they opened April 14.

“It’s the better batter ice cream,” said Craig, explaining how the flavor of Maggie Moo selections is the newest craze in ice cream featuring the taste of cake batter in all of their flavors. “We do the chocolate cake and vanilla cake-flavored ice cream, but for me personally, I like the smoothies.”

Smoothies come made with sorbet or low-fat, lactose free ice cream.

“My favorite is the triple berry pomegranate,” Craig said. “It’s not fat free; it’s low fat, so it has more flavor to it.”

All of Maggie Moo’s ice cream and treats are made fresh daily, Craig said. There are traditional but deliciously creamy milk shakes, Toptations Fruit Toppings with Top-Shelf Liqueurs, fundaes, sundaes and blue ribbon banana splits. For a lighter lift, try the Jones soda or an ice cream float.

Blue cotton candy flavored ice cream or red licorice flavored is big with kids and teens, but adults go for Better Batter dark chocolate, cheesecake, vanilla bean, banana pudding or butter pecan, Craig said.

“Every day we’re making ice cream, cakes, cupcakes… You name it, I do it,” said Craig, who also serves as chief cake decorator.

His beautiful cake creations are enough to trump the best of decorated bakery cakes. Chocolate shavings, drizzles of caramel and airbrushed works of art featuring your favorite face or a cartoon character of choice.

Oh, did we mention the “Fresh Escapes?”

Umm umm good, special flavors of the month are offered as a “fresh escape” from Maggie Moo’s already mouthwatering treats.

Flavors like “S’more Fun than a Campfire” features chocolate ice cream with mini marshmallows, Teddy Grahams and marshmallow cream. The “Udderly Butter Bebopper” is laden with Udderly Cream ice cream with Butterfingers, chocolate flakes and caramel.

Dream Cakes with choices that will make you feel like you’re out of this world are always ready made, and specialty cakes can be created upon request.

Try the Cotton Candy Carnival Dream Cake with dreamy, bright blue cake adorned with a marshmallow topping and M&Ms. It beckons thoughts of carnival-style cotton candy.

The Caramel Drizzle will stir your senses with the sweet taste of caramel, award-winning vanilla ice cream, fudge, pecans and classic Heath bar topping.

All cakes are available are available in three sizes. If you want something special, 24-hour notice is preferred. Otherwise, there are plenty of cakes in the counter to choose from.

Space is available for children’s birthday parties, depending on the requested time and day, Craig said.

“I can customize anything to make it fit for a party,” Craig said. “You give me a picture and I can do it. And it’s edible, made fresh for you right in the shop.”

Maggie Magoo’s Ice Cream and Treatery is a feast for the palate and the eyes, but you just have to see, taste it and catch the aroma of roasting waffle shells to believe it.

“It’s absolutely a fun place to work,” Craig said. “It gets hectic, but it’s ice cream. It makes people happy, they come in to get happy and we’re here to make people happy.”
