Mr. Steak Offers More Than Great SteaksBy Mary Ann O'Toole Holley
Owned and operated by Dave Rohlfing and his wife, Linda, Mr. Steak has been bringing the best of the best in dining since it opened under prior management more than 20 years ago. Rohlfing is what might be called a charter member of the Mr. Steak fan club. A bit like the Remington razor man, Rohlfing liked the food so much he bought the business. Rohlfing worked his way up from cook to manager to partner and owner. He is always at the helm, making sure everything is perfect from kitchen to table. "I like to have fun when I work, and I have a blast running the restaurant." Dave Rohlfing says. All steaks are hand-cut and only prime, corn-fed beef that is properly aged is served. Their burgers, of course, are ground by hand and grilled to perfection. Every entrée, in fact, is prepared from scratch. However, do not let the name fool you. Mr. Steak does not discriminate. You will find far more than steak and potatoes at this St. Charles dining establishment. Mr. Steak provides an almost exhaustive line of seafood entrees, plenty of chicken selections and some mighty tasty salads. If you are watching your waistline, there is a "lighter side" menu to keep your diet on track. There is a special lunch menu and an amazing dinner menu. All dinners include bread, a Caesar or garden salad or today's soup, and choice of potato, rice pilaf or hot vegetable. The lunch menu includes a choice of soup of the day, salad or fries. Among the fish fare are Lemon pepper Catfish and breaded catfish, but be sure to check regularly for Mr. Steak's all-you-can-eat crab leg eat-o-ramas. One of Mr. Steak's claims to fame may be its Steak Diane, a tender choice filet of sirloin marinated in a subtle blend of taste-tempting flavors, but house specialties go on and on. Specialties of the house include steak kebob featuring a savory marinated sirloin, green peppers, onion and mushrooms, a delicious mushroom and onion steak, topped by melted Swiss cheese and served with deep-fried mushrooms for a unique taste combination. If you are in the mood for a delicious sandwich, try Mr. Steak's amazing sandwich specialties. The beef and cheddar sandwiches are scrumptious with thinly sliced roasted beef and cheese grilled on delightfully tangy sourdough bread. Its rib eye steak sandwich is always a sure thing - melt-in-your-mouth tender with plenty of flavor. Nutty chicken is a unique option, featuring a grilled French roll topped with mounds of special almond chicken salad and lean bacon strips. Chicken, sandwiches and more fill their extensive menu, served by a dedicated wait staff that has been at the Rohlfing's side for years and years, serving as a glowing endorsement to the pleasantries of Mr. Steak. There's plenty to soothe and satisfy the taste buds at Mr. Steak, and with prices ranging at $10 or under for most items, the local eatery is a sure fit for families or a delightful dinner for two. Whether you are looking for a family gathering place or a great dinner for two, you will always find great service at Mr. Steak. Mr. Steak is located at 2731 Veteran's Memorial Parkway, adjacent to the Hawk's Nest Plaza -the South Service Road of I-70. Mr. Steak opened in 1973 as a franchise location for the Mr. Steak chain based in Denver.
